Today doesn’t feel real. This week, this MONTH feels unreal. The way COVID-19 swept our globe to now quarantining us in our homes should be a scene from a sci-fi movie. Food flying off shelves and people fighting over toilet paper in hysteria is now our actual reality. Due to the coronavirus, our everyday lives have come to a screeching halt.
Before the pandemic, I had a plan (I’m sure you all can relate). In February I finally had hit the 50% mark after a year and a half of itinerating to serve in El Salvador. March was supposed to be the month to kick off fundraising in 2020. A ton of work had gone into calling churches and checking calendars solidifying appearances at events to share about how God is calling me to the mission field. The goal was to be 100% funded to attend language school in June 2020. As necessary precautions were implemented in order to keep people safe, all of those speaking engagements were either rescheduled or canceled. Lord, I had a plan!
Watching the news of masses suffering in nations, people living consumed with anxiety. There is this realization, they all had plans too. I’m sure they were anticipating birthdays, graduations, moving days, and other celebrations of life. Lord, what happened to the plan? COVID-19 derailed all of our expectations forcing us to walk day by day within the unknown. Jesus, what now?
“In my distress, I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.”
Just so you know, It’s okay to be a Christian and ask those types of questions. Heck those who don’t yet have a relationship with Christ, know God is totally open with you asking him those questions. What is happening? Where are you, Lord? It’s alright to be scared, I’m a little scared too. Right now I have no idea what the plan is but I’m choosing to stand in the truth that God is in control of it all. As borders in El Salvador and in many other countries close I am trusting He knows the best plan for what our world needs right now.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
In this period of isolation, it is an opportunity to allow the Lord to strengthen our faith over fear. As days progress and more news channels report of countless people being affected, the place God has me right now is a mission field. Hearts are seeking hope in need of prayer, so that’s what I’m doing, praying and reaching out to those that I can. Sharing God hasn’t forgotten them and their loved ones in these times of suffering.
What does that mean for missions in El Salvador? Don’t worry I’m not giving up but I am waiting on God’s divine direction. You see, even though God knows my desire for missions and helping the unreached HIS plan comes before mine. Holding on to his promise, he will make a way for me to start fundraising again. Faithfully trusting one day I’ll be stepping off a plane on El Salvadorian soil.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful”
That same faith applies to what we are facing today. He promises protection from every disease or virus for those who love him and the assurance we do not walk alone in the darkness. My heart goes out to all the souls who are experiencing great loss and those who are awaiting miraculous healing. In Christ, we KNOW hope continues to live on despite the unplanned trials we face.
Stay faithful my friends & God Bless You!
