Cheers to my fellow singles! We survived sitting around family holiday dinners dodging all the uncomfortable remarks circling, “Why are you still single?”. With yet another daunting hallmark holiday ahead celebrating Love, the month of February might leave you grunting through clenched teeth. Thankfully with a good relationship in Christ, he makes everything (yes, even a season of singleness) so much sweeter & enjoyable. I’ve pulled together some scriptures that might be encouraging to those who are totally dreading V-DAY. Do not fear walking through the aisles of heart decorations & chocolate kisses, if you are single in the physical trust that you are not alone, God is right beside You! Let the Valentine’s Day countdown begin!
Day 1: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30
Day 2: “I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” Jeremiah 31:3
Day 3: “I am complete in Him.”-Colossians 2:10
When our partners don’t reciprocate Love to our expectations, it becomes a disappointment leaving us feeling empty yet once again. What if there was someone who loves us for eternity? There is, his name is Jesus. Let’s face the facts, people are not flawless & all-powerful, no one is going to *poof* make all your worries go away. A person doesn’t complete you, God’s Love does & he wants to give it to you under no conditions. It’s good to take this time in singleness to seek hist heart first before searching for a soulmate.
Day 4: “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:31
Day 5: “Let us test and examine our ways and return to the Lord. -Lamentations 3:40
Do you love yourself? I’ve heard the preaching repeatedly, “love others as you as you love yourself.” As a people pleaser, it is never hard to express adoration to the person I’m dating. Sure, my actions are done with the best intentions, but to be honest, a lot of the striving used to come from a place of insecurity. In past relationships, my outlook on self-worth was the lowest of low. I didn’t love myself and failed to expect my partners to treat me with value. Unless we know how christ sees us by reading His word, allow me to emphasize, a partner is only going to love you as you love yourself.
Day 6: “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.”- Psalm 34:18
Day 7: And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”-Romans 8:28
Day 8: “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”-1 Peter 5:1
Breakups are brutal, an end to a relationship, no matter the duration can be utterly devasting. Walking away from a 5-year term boyfriend who wasn’t the person God intended for me was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. For lack of better words, those after days SUCKED. My heart had been torn out & crushed into a million pieces, it seemed impossible to ever heal. As weeks went by, then months, to now 4 years later, I can say in confidence over time the sting of breaking that soul tie has subsided. Jesus nurtures & tends to the parts that continuously need restoring from the inside out. There is a better understanding of why things didn’t work out the way I had imagined. With leaving our battered hearts in God’s hands, by surrendering to the process, we can learn to forgive, let go, & move forward in HIS purpose for our lives.
Day 9: “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”- Proverbs 4:23
Day 10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Pslams”-51:10
Day 11: “Do not stir up or awaken love until it is ready!” -The Song of Solomon 3:5
So many of us easily hand over our love tickers to those who toss them away like a bag of last seasons’ clothing. Yes, Love should be freely given but with protection & intention. Guard. Your. Hearts people! Make sure to invest time in getting to know someone along with allowing the Lord to reveal if this is truly a person that should enter your life at the moment. With not only putting boundaries to protect yourself from harm but also recognize the caution tape is wrapped around to check where your heart stands right now. Are you ready to include someone else in your life? Looking inward, have you healed from past relationships & not carrying over issues into a new one? Often (probably once or twice a month haha), I’ve thought, “Yes, God! I’m ready to date again”. Graciously, he gently reminds me of the present wounds that still require a bit more attention. I see how the Lord is creating a new space with HIS overwhelming Love and also making room for my future husband to one day fill. Hang in there singles, hold off on the mingling (including Christian Mingle lol), the Lord is preparing your perfect partner’s heart as he works on yours. It’ll be worth the wait!
Day 12: “Mightier than the waves of the sea is His love for you.”-Psalm 93:4
Day 13: “Whenever you feel unloved, unimportant, or insecure, remember to whom you belong.”-Ephesian 2:19-22
Day 14: “You are loved more than you will ever know by someone who died to know you.”-Romans 5:6
Thanks to Romanic comedies (my guilty pleasures lol) in the wait for a ribmate, there is a desire to have the most perfect love story. Guess what?! We already do! Despite what the world may depict, we are not alone as singles. We are not unloved & forgotten, as Jesus aligns the timeline for us to meet our partners in our season of singleness, we get to live in a different kind of romance. With no strings attached, we can recklessly receive all the Love our creator wants to give. Soak it up, buttercup! You ARE adored, standing in the presence of a God who will always chase after your heart.
Happy Valentines Day friends
