Kicking Caffeine To The Curb

Coffee is not just a warm beverage anymore it has become a real staple in surviving the daily grind. Being of  Spanish & Italian descent, I was basically born with roasted beans brewing in my veins. Personally, I enjoy it in all forms, black, latte, espresso, iced, hot, or flavored, how can you choose! People have their vices, mine was definitely coffee. In one day I would sip almost 3-4 cups purely for comfort rather than for a boost. Naturally, since being a seasoned drinker, I didn’t think my body would be affected, but of course, I was way WRONG

Imagine the feelings of despair after hearing my doctor suggest it might be time for me to limit or completely stop drinking coffee. Who knew that overdosing on caffeine and having hypothyroidism was a bad thing? (oops). That extra iced americano could be a culprit causing more issues with hormone imbalances as well, ladies watch out this stuff is sneaky! There is no doubt scientifically that drinking coffee does have some health benefits. In my case, I was pouring liquid stress into my temple (YIKES). Making the switch to caffeine free options took A LOT of effort. I tested out mushroom coffees and other trendy alternatives which taste amazing but aren’t budget friendly for everyday use.

Now one month clean, how did I eventually do it? Well, the old school way, COLD TURKEY with a dash of Pinterest #inspo. Of course, starting off using herbal teas are the easiest and cheapest route. If craving a little more hug in your mug, try out the recipes below. Most of these are made with whole food ingredients full of nutritional goodies for health needs. They also can be made for any dietary preference (Yay!). Lately, since Fall has officially begun, I’ve been hooked on starting mornings with a Dairy Free, Caffeine Free, Real Pumpkin spice latte. Try it for yourself and comment below! 

Pure Pumpkin Spice Latte (DF, CAFFEINE FREE, GF, V, SF)

2 Tbs Pure Pumpkin Puree

1 Tbs Vanilla Extract 

1 Tsp Pumpkin Spice Flavor 

(Serves:1 cup Heat over a low flame for 5-6 minutes until warm) 

Matcha In Minutes (SF, GF, DF) 


Orangic Green Tea Matcha Powder

1 Tsp Coconut oil / MCT oil / Ghee 

1 Cup Non-Dairy Milk (Almond, Cashew, Coconut, Etc.) 

1 Tbs Vanilla Extract 

(Serves:1 cup Heat over a low flame for 5-6 minutes until warm) 

** Does contain caffeine ** 

Anit- Flammatory Hot Chocolate (DF, GF, SF, V, Caffeine Free)

1Tbs Pure Dark Cocoa

1 Cup Non-Dairy Milk 

1 Tbs Vanilla Extract 

Sprinkle of Cinnamon 

(Serves:1 cup Heat over a low flame for 5-6 minutes until warm)
