Isn’t it convenient when we can directly ask Siri for directions to any location? I am terrible at navigating life let alone a map so having an assured idea of where I’m heading is comforting. God has been consistently working on me to surrender unto him, even more, my over planning habits. Before becoming a missionary was a thought in my mind I had all roads figured out for my life. Although it seemed like I was heading towards the right path God had something else planned for me. Funny thing is those landmarks or goals I had created were really the detours of what was ahead. Since picking up the mantle to become a missionary I have realized that planning only goes so far, you also have to be flexible to change of route & trust God’s will.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
It was easy to get wrapped in the excitement of not only becoming an AGWM Maps missionary but also to get invited to serve in Nicaragua where God really moved in my heart for missions. With a team fully formed I was more than happy to revisit such a beautiful country & to see what work the Lord still had for me to do. A few weeks ago uprisings against the government in Nicaragua began, causing a lot of pain & suffering for the people & missionaries that are there. Honestly, when hearing the updates about what was going on I couldn’t help but ask “God, did I hear you wrong?” Hanging on to my calling despite the political issues I was more than prepared to go, but God once again decided to mix things up.
After much prayer & final announcement from our team leaders instead of Nicaragua, I will now be serving with King’s Castle ministries in El Salvador. Receiving the news about transitioning to El Salvador, I was surprised by my reaction. The old Crystal would usually panic, but now I indeed rely on the path that God leads.
Am I disappointed about not going to Nicaragua? A little, but at this point in my journey, I am willing to travel all over the globe sharing the news of salvation & love of Christ. As one of my fellow #NicaChicas Sarah Bell puts it “Everyone needs to hear the word of God” meaning that no matter where we are placed it is our responsibility to serve & shine the light. So what does this say for me now? Well, financially I’m not as set as I thought I’d be at this point due to fees for altering plane tickets etc. but I trust he will make a way.
“I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
– Psalm 16:8
My expectations for serving in El Salvador would be precisely the same if I were to help in Nicaragua. I hope to make incredible memories reaching out to the brokenhearted & expect the Lord to MOVE mountains.
