Congratulations! If you decided to commit your life to Christ the poster board guarantee is that you will become a multi-millionaire, never become ill, & sadness is no longer part of your emotional vocabulary. Sorry friends, unfortunately being a believer isn’t that easy. I mean if you reference books Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John, the life of Jesus you’ll see wasn’t a journey full of angel dust & instant gratification. In his human existence, he endured similar situations, you & I do every day, but the difference was that his faith NEVER wavered.
The Break Down
You know those weeks that nothing is going the way it should? The cat broke your favorite coaster holder from Greece (actual event), work is overwhelming & for some reason, there is a lack of spiritual overflow. Everyone goes through their own “stuff.” Your struggle is different from mine, but there is no denying with unfortunate events piling up left to right we all have a breaking point. Just last week I found myself on my knees lifting hands up to the Lord begging for a sign of assurance that things will fall into place.
“At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”-Matthew 27:46
When Darkness Falls
Allowing yourself to arrive in the valley of shadows the only reasonable action to follow is to pull the blankets overhead & shut out the rest of the world. When I slip into the darkness from sunrise to sunset, my whole emotional state is zapped. Physically my body is weary as if I had been boxing with God all night spiritually. I’m not condoning closing the shutters is healthy ALL the time, but in some cases, even Jesus had to distance himself to silence the noise.
“But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.”-Luke 5:16
It’s quite alright to express yourself. God wants you to have an open relationship with him. As you would like a close friend or an actual father, share the frustration & petitions that are heavy in your heart. Lay them at his feet but then ask for understanding. Once you’ve cried all the tears to fill the ocean, remember to not get comfortable in the abyss of loss turning to scripture will lead you out.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.-Psalm 119:105
Remembering The Promise
they will lift you up in their hands
It’s the encouragement that believing & trusting in Christ no matter how bleak our circumstances are HE will protect us simply because we love him back. Knowing these passages also enforces that we ARE capable of claiming VICTORY in the darkness (insert flexing arm emoji here). I pray that my loves you will never forget the promise God created you for. Save five bucks & start relying on Jesus a little more than a venti latte to get you through the day. God’s love is a perfect boost of hope when facing the fires of life.
