Beyond Borders

After my first missions experience, my heart is on fire to continue spreading the love of Christ like glitter across borders. Since I had just gotten back from Nicaragua barely four months ago, committing to go to Colombia with my mom seemed unrealistic. I know I say this often, but for real, when you have God on your side, NOTHING is impossible. Thanks to a little fundraising & supportive prayer from ya’ll God opened the doors. Before I knew it, our team of nine were selected & we were on our way.

I’ve traveled before, but when you decide to go on a spiritual journey in the name of Jesus, it’s a whole other ball game. For example, when I arrived in Nicaragua my walk in faith was a “seedling.”  My spiritual eyes were still opening & I was more observing than participating in confidence. This time around I wanted to be in tune with how God planned on using me.

The Power of A Name

“These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” – Mark 16:17

A week before the trip I felt the pull to spend some time with God & it was through this verse that he was giving me an idea of what our team might experience in Colombia. Low and behold it eventually was revealed & there was no denying that God was pushing me off the sidelines. It also became clear that what we encounter in Colombia may seem intimidating, but in his name Jesus Christ, there is power. At that moment, I surrendered & said if this is what you ask of me thy will be done.

When you allow the Lord to use you as a vessel, just as the bible verse says, he gives you the Authority. He sends the Holy Spirit to fill you, giving you the words & the wisdom, literally working THROUGH you. On our first day in Colombia, we went to a Pentecostal service and the Holy Spirit was bouncing off the walls during worship. Our team was asked to pray for the congregation, the minute we scattered into the crowd our willing bodies turned into the light of God.

Fight or Flight

The first time I felt God working through me in authority was that day. While praying over a woman she fell into my arms in a few seconds her body was thrashing around on the floor. At that moment I am sure most people would head to the hills, but God had me the whole time. With no hesitation, the Holy Spirit gave me the name of Jesus to keep fighting. My love for her, God’s love for her overpowered my flesh. I was not leaving her side until God told me too, when it was over she was free.

You probably think I’m crazy, believe me, I felt completely, coo-coo, bananas still sitting on the floor in awe of what I just witnessed. At the end of all, embracing me in a hug, she thanked me. Spiritually & emotionally drained there was a ping in my heart knowing that I could not take any credit for what happened. Thankfully, it wasn’t me at all that saved her; it was the big man upstairs.

The Over Flow

You’d think that after our first 24 hours in Colombia it would be a tough act to follow. The great thing about God is he is always moving. Every day his overflow of love spilled out as our team ministered to children, a special needs home, aspiring missionaries & renovating a church. Only God could fill you with the compassion for complete strangers so much that it breaks your heart to say goodbye.

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.-Matthew 5:16

Although physically present, it wasn’t just our team loving those kids or me; it was Jesus. It wasn’t the team healing people it was Jesus. We weren’t slaying people in the spirit it was Jesus. He did it all, providing the tools needed to reach the broken and unloved.

You don’t have to go on a missions trip to experience the overflow; it’s that impulsive warm electric feeling to hug or smile at someone. God’s love goes beyond borders, even if you feel awkward and never have the words to say just DO IT. When you love those, who are hurting leave it to him to have your back for he is working THROUGH you. He is truly AMAZING

God Bless,
